December 2011 - THIS week's PICTURE

Pancake Breakfast with the Armellini 2: Joiner photograph by Malcolm Aslett

I've re-worked last week's image to have all the figures on the top. The balance has shifted and is not so even. This cramps up the left side of the table and leaves the objects in greater disarray. It makes more sense as a picture but loses as much as it gains through the process.

Now it's done you can notice how unifying the circle of plates was to the first image. With the objects broken up it gives less emphasis to the bowl and gives the eye less design to feel secure with. I often think that I should be more geometric in arrangements. A formality may seem artificial but I think visual aesthetics have a bit of the fascist in them - longing for order.

Might have another go at it with that in mind. Not quite tired of it yet but wonder if I have enough energy to come up with a formal plan for the parts and go through all the effort to put it together. Sounds like knitting a jumper...
